The questioner : I ask the honorable scholars to provide information on the following: first, the rights of parents over their children. There are other points that will follow, O esteemed Shaykh Muhammad?
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. And I thank Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for this great and noble blessing in this program, *Nur 'ala al-Darb*, which reaches other lands besides our own and from which Muslims benefit. This is from the success of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
The questioner : Praise be to Allah.
The Shaykh : For those who run this program, and for the program itself, and for the Muslims who benefit from it in every place. So we ask Allah the Exalted to increase everyone in His grace, and to grant us all beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.
The questioner : O Allah, amen.
The Shaykh : As for the answer to this question: the rights of parents over their children. The rights of the parents, the mother and the father, over their children are great and immense rights that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) placed after His own right. So He said, Exalted is He:[An-Nisa 4:36] And He said, Exalted is He: [Al-Isra 17:23] And He said, Exalted is He: [Al-'Ankabut 29:8] [Al-Ahqaf 46:15] And there are many verses in this meaning. Likewise, the hadiths reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explaining the virtue of dutifulness to parents and encouraging it are numerous and known to many people. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) pointed out in Surat al-Isra' to a state in which the parents reach the point of being weary of their child, and of his boredom and fatigue, and He forbade, Exalted is He, the child from being annoyed with them when they reach this state. So He said, Exalted is He: [Al-Isra 17:23-24] And it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he made undutifulness to parents among the greatest of major sins. So he said in the hadith of Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him): Sahih al-Bukhari 6919 So it is obligatory for the child, whether male or female, to fulfill the rights of his parents in the manner that pleases Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and not to be negligent in their rights. And let him know that dutifulness, as the common people say, is a legacy, and that whoever is dutiful to his parents, his children will be dutiful to him, and whoever is undutiful to his parents will be punished with the undutifulness of his children, unless he repents to Allah for what he has done, for whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you. The second point says.

Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment
And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment.
Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
The biggest of the great sins are: To join others in worship with Allah, to be undutiful to one's parents
The questioner : May Allah bless you. The second point says.
