How to Pray for One Who Does Not Memorize Any of the Qur'an
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: His mother does not memorize any of the Qur'an, nor does she memorize the tashahhud, nor does she memorize any of the supplications. He tried to teach her some of that, but she was unable to do so. He asks about the ruling on her prayer? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
[al-Taghabun:16], she must learn al-Fatihah and learn what is obligatory for her in her prayer. If she does not know al-Fatihah, she says: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, and La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. This is how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded one who is unable to recite al-Fatihah to glorify and praise Allah. However, this must be done with care and guidance toward the good, so that, if Allah wills, she may memorize it.
The point is that in the present time, whenever she does not memorize al-Fatihah, she should glorify Allah, praise Him, and declare His greatness, and that is sufficient until she learns it. She must learn it; every person must learn. Every woman must learn from her brother, from her husband, or from a female teacher who teaches her. This is necessary. It requires patience, care, and a lack of laxity, neither for the man nor for the woman. The minimum requirement is al-Fatihah, the opening of the Book; there is no excuse for not knowing it.[Al-Fatihah 1:2] It is necessary to learn it because it is a pillar of the prayer. But if the time for prayer comes and the woman does not know this surah, or the man does not, he says: Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, and La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. That is sufficient, and he bows, until Allah grants him the ability to learn it thereafter.
The father of the son and the father of the daughter, and her brother, and her grandfather must cooperate in this. A woman must be taught just as a man must be. There may be some men from the desert or those similar to the desert dwellers who need this. Therefore, learning is obligatory. It is the duty of her father to compel him, and the duty of her elder brother to compel him, and so on. Likewise, for the daughter, it is the duty of her mother to explain it to her, and her brother, and her father. Cooperation in righteousness and piety is necessary, and there must be sincerity and earnestness in this. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
