Q 3: In our country, some of the residents are Muslims who do not know the rulings of prayer or the recitation of the Qur'an, and they pray silently without reciting the verses of the Qur'an; because they cannot find anyone to teach them. Is their prayer valid or not?
A 3: The ritual prayer is obligatory upon the Muslim, even if he does not know anything of the Qur'an; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Taghabun 64:16] , and because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 302 But it is obligatory to learn Surat al-Fatihah; because it is a pillar of the pillars of prayer. It is also recommended for him to learn more of the short surahs of the Qur'an. If he is unable to learn Surat al-Fatihah, it suffices for him to recite the tasbih, the tahlil, the tahmid, the takbir, and the saying: "There is no power nor strength except with Allah"; for what is established from . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
