The Ruling on Going to Sorcerers to Bring Affection Between a Husband and Wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling in Islam regarding going to sorcerers for the purpose of performing a spell to bring affection between a husband and wife who have children and are on the verge of separating?

Answer:
Going to sorcerers is a grave sin. It is not permissible to go to soothsayers or diviners, nor to ask them questions, nor to believe them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.مَن أتى عرَّافًا فسأله عن شيءٍ لم تُقبل له صلاة أربعين ليلة
Sahih Muslim 2230
.
The diviner who claims to know the nature of things, claiming knowledge of the unseen, or through the service of Shayatins and jinn, or through palmistry, or similar superstitions, or by summoning spirits—all these are called diviners and soothsayers. Likewise, those who practice sorcery by looking at the stars, or by other means, or by using Shayatins. None of these should be visited or asked questions.
And whoever’s soothsaying and sorcery involve worshipping other than Allah, asking Shayatins, and calling upon them for aid, that becomes major shirk (associating partners with Allah)—we seek refuge in Allah. It is known that sorcerers only practice through the worship of jinn and their service. For this reason, He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
But the two angels do not teach anyoneوَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ
[Al-Baqarah 2:102]
meaning: the two angels
unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieveحَتَّى يَقُولَا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ
[al-Baqarah:102], which indicates that sorcery is disbelief.
However, for those afflicted with diseases—praise be to Allah—there is a cure through recitation by reciters known for their mindfulness of Allah and faith, and through the use of known material medicine. One may recite over himself, or his brother, or his father, or someone similar may recite over him. Allah has placed a cure in the Qur'an for many diseases, just as it is a cure for the hearts from their diseases, shirk (associating partners with Allah), hypocrisy, arrogance, and envy. Thus, it is also a cure for many bodily diseases by His permission (Glorified and Exalted is He). If he recites over himself al-Fatihah, the Verse of the Throne, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and the two chapters of protection (al-Mu'awwidhatan), or if his brother, or his father, or his mother, or someone similar, or some of the righteous people of faith and mindfulness of Allah recites over him, goodness and health are to be hoped for him.
