Question:
I have the chain of the hadith with me. It says: Ahmad ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Haywah ibn Shurayh, from Sharhabil ibn Shurayk, from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Habali, from Abdullah ibn Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor.خير الأصحاب عند الله خيرهم لصاحبه، وخير الجيران عند الله خيرهم لجاره
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1944Sahih (Darussalam)
. Abu Isa said: This is a good, isolated hadith. Is Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Habali’s name Abdullah ibn Yazid?

Answer:
Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Habali is trustworthy, but in its chain is Sharhabil ibn Shurayk, and he is a subject of scrutiny.
The student: Al-Darimi and Imam Ahmad also narrated it.
The Shaykh: The marginal note?
The student: Yes, Shaykh Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut said: And its chain is authentic, and al-Hakim graded it as authentic, and al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
The Shaykh: In the marginal notes of "Riyad al-Salihin"?
The student: Yes.
The Shaykh: What did he say about Sharhabil ibn Shurayk?
The student: Sharhabil ibn Shurayk, as mentioned by the author of "Al-Kamil," the correct name is: Shurayk ibn Hanbal. Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, and others, said: Sharhabil ibn Shurayk al-Ma'afiri, Abu Muhammad, the Egyptian, and it is said: Sharhabil ibn Amr ibn Shurayk. He is reliable, from the sixth generation. (Al-Bukhari in "Al-Adab al-Mufrad," and Muslim, and Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi, and al-Nasa'i).
The Shaykh: As he said, there is no harm in it, it is good.
