Question:
Regarding the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 44b, how do we compare a person's love for his child with his love for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?
Answer:
That is: complete faith. If he loves his child more, his faith becomes deficient. As for loving Allah and His Messenger, it is indispensable; there is no faith except by loving Allah and His Messenger. So, the Messenger being dearer to him than his child and his own self is the perfection of faith. If he loves his child more, or loves his wife more, it becomes a deficiency in his faith and a weakness in his faith.
Regarding the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
None of you is a believer until I am dearer to him than his child, his father, and the whole of mankind.
