People loving one another for the sake of Allah, but to an excessive degree

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20518 )
Q 2: A matter has spread among women who hold fast to their religion, and we would like to
know its ruling. It is that one of them exaggerates in her love for her friend and sister in Allah to an extreme degree. Among the forms of this exaggeration is that she wears what her friend wears, would sacrifice her life for her, engraves her name on some of her jewelry, visits her frequently, and must contact her daily in calls that may last and exceed one or two hours. She may be severely affected if she does not see her. They claim that all of this is love for the sake of Allah the Exalted. We ask you, may Allah reward you, to clarify the ruling on this and to explain the reality of love for the sake of Allah as distinct from other types of love , knowing that all of the above is a reality in the women’s community, and Allah is the One to be sought for help.
A 2: Love for the sake of Allah is one of the strongest ties of faith, and those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be shaded by Allah in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His, as established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Love for the sake of Allah is considered a righteous deed; because it is loving those whom Allah loves among people, namely the righteous. The cause of love for the sake of Allah is that the person is fulfilling the rights of Allah and the rights of His servants, holding fast to the Shari'ah of Allah, not for lineage, not for kinship, not for beauty, not for wealth, and not for any other worldly benefit. And a sign of the sincerity of this love is: if the beloved commits a disobedience to the command of Allah, the love decreases in accordance with that disobedience, and hatred takes its place; out of anger for Allah the Exalted, and out of reverence for His inviolable rights. As for exaggerating in the love of a person and the heart’s attachment to him for his own sake, to the point where one cannot bear to be separated from him, and admiring him to the extent of infatuation—this is not of the love for the sake of Allah. Rather, that is a defect in tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and a turning of the heart
to other than Allah the Exalted, and a means to what Allah has forbidden of lewd acts. It is a reprehensible matter that must be abandoned and guarded against. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
