What are the types of sorcery and the description of each?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Sorcery of illusion, is it used now..?

Answer:
Sorcery is of two types: sorcery by action, and sorcery by illusion. The sorcery of the followers of Pharaoh was by illusion
seemed to him from their magic that they were movingيُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَى
[Ta-Ha:66]. They brought in staffs and ropes and did things... to make people think that the staffs were moving, that the ropes were moving, and that they were snakes. So it became illusion. This happens with many people; they enter people's shops and others, they alter things for them, and they take their money. This is evil sorcery.
The second type of sorcery is by the works of the Shayateen, such as medicines and blowing into knots, and other things they do with the Shayateen; so that they affect the person by the permission of Allah
But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah.وَمَا هُمْ بِضَارِّينَ بِهِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ
[al-Baqarah:102]. This is Allah's cosmic and decreed permission. It may be by blowing into knots, or by medicines they give the man to drink or make him sniff, so that they affect his head. Or it is an illusion they work with things so that he imagines he sees his wife in a form other than what she was, so that he hates her. Or they create an illusion for the woman regarding her husband so that she sees her husband in a form other than what she knows him to be, as if he means a beast, or as if he means a scorpion, or as if he means...; so that she hates him. Or in an ugly form so that hatred occurs between them. This is called al-Tawlah, and it is al-Sarf (diversion). It is the work of women. We ask Allah for safety from it.
