Explanation of the statement of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): The Vocative.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The Vocative":
The vocative is with a long vowel, and it is: "seeking attention with a yaa or one of its sister letters". This vocative is seeking attention with a yaa or one of its sister letters. Then, the vocative may be explicit or implied. His statement:
And when you call to prayer وإذا ناديتم إلى الصلاة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:58]
: There is no "yaa" in it, O people, be present, but it contains: "Hayya 'ala al-salah" (Hasten to prayer). He said: It is an implied vocative.
The vocative has specific letters, which the scholars gathered when they traced this in the Arabic language. These letters are like the letters of pointing, but they are specific to the vocative.
