The Poison Basin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Some people in "Wadi Qadir" have a vessel made of copper which they call the "Poison Basin." When a person falls ill, he goes to the one who has this basin, fills it with water, and drinks that water, believing that it contains a cure, especially if the illness is in the stomach.
I have also noticed that there is an engraved image on the vessel, depicting a scorpion, a horse, a cat, a gazelle, donkeys—may Allah protect you—a snake, a fox, an elephant, a lion, and men, along with some other images I do not know. All of these are engraved on this vessel.
There are also names and writings such as "the martyr" and so on. He continues to describe the basin and asks for guidance regarding this matter.

A: This basin that the questioner referred to is a denunciation-worthy thing, and it contains great denunciation-worthy matters, namely the images mentioned by the questioner. We do not know of any basin, whether made of iron, copper, gold, silver, or otherwise, that cures stomach ailments or others. Rather, it is a claim made by the owner of the basin through lying and falsehood, or he has a connection with wicked jinn and their disbelievers to use them in this sorcery through this basin. He claims to treat people with it in order to take people's money unjustly and deceive them by saying he treats them with this basin.
It is obligatory that this basin be confiscated by the authorities in the country and destroyed, along with disciplining its owner so that he does not return to such an act. This is the duty of the responsible parties in the country: the prince, the judge, and the committee.
It is obligatory for anyone who knows of this sorcery to report the matter to the court, the committee, and the emirate so that they take the necessary action in this issue. It is not permissible to remain silent about the owner of this basin, because his work is a denunciation-worthy matter with no basis in the Shari'ah.
And you, O questioner, must carry out this matter, you and your brothers who are aware of this, so that you may rid your country of this denunciation-worthy matter and eliminate this harm and evil through your efforts, if Allah wills.
