Ruling on the application of oil or blood to the heads of the bride and groom by sorcerers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: In our village, there is an imam who leads us in prayer, and he engages in a matter that has greatly confused us. When someone in the village gets married, he does not let the marriage be completed fully. The bride and groom experience severe anger between them, and it is said: "Go to this shaykh so he can prepare a paper for them." When they do that, they become reconciled with each other. When the shaykh arrives, he brings books from the jinn and the humans and reads from them. He rubs oil on the heads of the bride and groom and brings red ink, saying that this ink should be soaked in water and drunk. After that, he says, "Bring me a chicken." He slaughters it, takes its blood, and puts it on the heads of the bride and groom. After that, the anger subsides. What is the ruling on this?

A: This action is reprehensible, an error, a mistake, and a deception of the people. It has no basis or validity. Rather, it is obligatory for one who feels anger to seek refuge in Allah from Satan until his anger subsides. It is prescribed for him to perform wudu' (ablution), as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded, because Satan was created from fire, and fire is extinguished by water, and anger is from Satan. So the believer does the things prescribed by the Shari'ah, such as seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and performing wudu'.
Likewise, among the causes of extinguishing anger is that if one is standing, he should sit; if he is sitting, he should lie down; or he should leave the place until the anger subsides.
As for what this shaykh does, such as smearing their heads with oil or blood or the blood of the chicken, etc., this has no basis. It is all error, deception, and fraud. If his intention in slaughtering the chicken is to draw near to the jinn, then that is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). In the authentic hadith:
Allah cursed him who sacrificed for anyone besides Allahلعن الله من ذبح لغير الله
Sahih Muslim 1978b
, and Allah the Exalted says:
Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrificeقُلْ إِنَّ صَلاتِي وَنُسُكِي
[Al-An'am 6:162]
(meaning my sacrifice)
my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝
[Al-An'am 6:162]
"There is no partner for Him, and for that I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims" [Al-An'am: 162-163], and He the Exalted says:
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar.إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ ۝
[Al-Kawthar 108:1]
"So pray to your Lord and sacrifice" [Al-Kawthar: 1-2], and the sacrifice is the slaughter.
It is obligatory for them to turn away from this man and keep their distance from him, and to advise him. If he does not accept the advice and repent to Allah , his case should be referred to the Shari'ah court, or to the Commission for Promoting Good and Forbidding Evil, or to the competent authority if there is no Shari'ah court or Commission for Promoting Good and Forbidding Evil in the town; so that they can summon him, inform him of his error, and prevent him from practicing treatment that contradicts the pure Shari'ah.
As for the imamate, he should not remain in it; rather, he must be removed from it; because he is accused of shirk, along with the actions he engages in that have no basis in the pure Shari'ah.
As for the bride and groom, they should be treated by the Shari'ah methods as mentioned above. And success is from Allah.
