How to Pray for One Who Is Unable to Stand or Sit
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
One of the listening brothers, (H. A. S.) from Riyadh, asks and says: My wife is in her last month, as of when I wrote the letter, and she is unable to stand for prayer, as the positions of bowing and prostration cause her great pain. She is also unable to pray while sitting. Is she permitted to pray in another form? We ask you to inform us. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said to 'Imran ibn al-Husayn when he was afflicted with an illness:Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani) And Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Taghabun: 16]. All of the children of Adam are equal in this, the man and the woman. If a man or a woman is unable to pray standing or sitting, he or she prays according to his or her condition, on his or her right side, or on his or her left side, or lying on his or her back, according to his or her ability. [Al-Baqarah: 286]. And one performs the actions with intention. If he is on his side or lying on his back, he acts with intention: the intention of standing, so he opens the prayer, seeks refuge in Allah from Satan, says the name of Allah, and recites al-Fatihah and whatever is easy with it. Then he intends the bowing and says takbir, saying: Subhana Rabbi al-'Azeem, Subhana Rabbi al-'Azeem. Then he intends the rising and says: Sami' Allahu li man hamidah, Rabbana wa laka al-hamd... to the end of it. Then he intends the prostration, says takbir, and prostrates. And so on. Yes.

offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side
صل قائماً فإن لم تستطع فقاعداً فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب، فإن لم تستطع فمستلقياًSo fear Allah as much as you are able
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْAllah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity
