Ruling on fasting for a woman who enters Ramadan while breastfeeding

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The brother Majdi Muhammad Abd al-Khalik, an Egyptian national residing in Iraq, asks a set of questions. In his first question, he says: I am a married man with my family, and my wife gave birth on the first day of last Ramadan. Another Ramadan has come and she is breastfeeding. What is her situation, if you please?
Answer: There is no blame on her for breaking her fast if breastfeeding causes her harm if she fasts. The result is that a breastfeeding woman, a pregnant woman, and a sick woman are all excused until they are able to fast. So, if another Ramadan comes and she is breastfeeding and cannot fast, or it is difficult for her because of the breastfeeding, she breaks her fast for that Ramadan and then makes up both fasts after she gains the strength to do so, either by weaning the child, or by strength that enables her to fast, or by other causes of ability.
The result is: As long as fasting is difficult for her because of breastfeeding, or because of pregnancy, or because of some illness, she breaks her fast and there is no expiation on her; because she is not despairing of fasting, but she hopes for the ability to do so. If Allah makes fasting easy for her, praise be to Allah, she fasts all of them. She fasts what she missed consecutively or separately, and there is no blame, and there is no expiation on her. Yes.
The presenter: If she broke her fast because of breastfeeding, is she required to do anything besides making up the fasts, or not?
The Shaykh: She is not required to do anything; because it is like illness.
The presenter: Because it is like illness?
The Shaykh: Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
