Urging Da'is to Patience and Not to Despair

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Shaykh Abdul Aziz, some of the letters that reach this program express feelings of pain and burning, and perhaps even regret in some cases. Perhaps His Eminence the Shaykh has some guidance regarding the feelings of the da'i?
Answer: This is like what was mentioned before; because when one who has zeal and knowledge sees the many evils, the few who forbid them, and their prevalence in most societies, there is no doubt that it pains the believer, and there is no doubt that he finds in his heart... and regret in his heart because he is unable to forbid this evil and eliminate it, so he is pained by it. It even reached us from some of the Salaf that when he saw an evil, he would urinate blood from the intensity of the pain that occurred in his heart.
So the result is that those with zeal and those with knowledge and virtue are greatly pained by the evils they see while they are unable to forbid them and eliminate them, and they rejoice when they find someone who forbids them and is able to call to leaving them. This is certainly a sign of good, but we give them good news that they are upon good, and that they should not despair, and that they should not lose hope, and that they should continue to forbid evil according to their ability. And it is not sufficient to merely feel pain; rather, it is necessary, along with the pain, to forbid evil by the means Allah has prescribed: with the hand when able, then with the tongue when able, then with the heart by hating the evil and not sitting with its people. This is how the believer is wherever he is, and he never despairs. So Allah says:
and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."وَلا تَيْئَسُوا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لا يَيْئَسُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْقَوْمُ الكَافِرُونَ
[Yusuf: 87].
So it is obligatory upon the believer, and upon the student of knowledge, and upon the believing woman, and upon the female student of knowledge, that each of them should exert what he or she can in this path, and not despair, but rather be wherever he or she is, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, calling to Allah , and guiding the servants of Allah with what Allah has given him of what Allah has taught him
So fear Allah as much as you are able
[Al-Taghabun: 16]. If Allah guides one person through his hand, it is a great good. If Allah guides one woman through her hand, it is a great good. It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said to Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Commander of the Faithful (may Allah be pleased with him) , when he sent him to Khaybar to call the Jews—residents of Khaybar at that time—to Islam. He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him):
for by Allah, if one man is guided on the right path (i.e. converted to Islam) through you, it would be better for you than (a great number of) red camels.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3701
It clarifies to him that the intention is not to fight them, and the intention is not to take their wealth, and the intention is not to take captive their offspring and women. No, the intention is to call them to Allah, the intention is to bring them out of darkness into light, the intention is to guide them so that they enter into Islam so that they are saved from the Fire. For this reason, He, the Exalted, says:
a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the lightكِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ لِتُخْرِجَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ
[Ibrahim: 1]. It was not revealed to burn them or to kill them; it was revealed to bring them out and to show them the good. This is what is required of da'wah, and this is what is required of the messengers. But when there is stubbornness and no response from those being called, the Muslims then move with them to the other matter, which is fighting, until they return them to the truth by force, and until they free their offspring and women from this sin, and until they bring them into Islam, and until they benefit from their wealth and what Allah has given them for the religion of Allah and its establishment, and for calling others to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. So fighting is not the primary intention; rather, it is the secondary intention. If it becomes easy to call them to good, guide them, and have them turn to the truth and accept it, that is what is required. If they are stubborn and oppose, then fighting them is prescribed at that time until they enter into Islam or pay the jizyah, if they are from the People of the Book or from the Majus, as the Sunnah has brought and the great Book has indicated.
So the intention of all of this is: that da'wah to Allah is the primary foundation, and that patience with it is among the most important matters. And that if one person is guided by Allah through the hand of a person, it is better for him than the world and what is in it, and that he has a reward like his, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.
Sahih Muslim 1893a
This is a great gain that makes the caller to Allah and the mujahideen roll up their sleeves for earnest effort and be patient with harm until they attain this great objective. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. The last question in this episode, His Eminence the Shaykh, as you have mentioned and clarified, the path of da'wah is a specific path and has a specific provision. This pain and that regret that stops the da'i in the middle of the path, do you approve of it from the da'i, or is there specific guidance for him?
The Shaykh: It is not permissible to stop in the path; rather, it is obligatory not to despair and to be broad-minded and patient until he attains, if Allah wills, what he intended, or dies upon it. This is how it must be. Allah says:
And do not despair of the mercy of Allah.
[Yusuf: 87], and He says:
do not despair of the mercy of Allahلا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ
[Az-Zumar: 53], and He, the Glorious and Exalted, says:
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allahقُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ
[Az-Zumar: 53]. So it is obligatory upon the caller, the one who enjoins what is right, and the one who forbids what is wrong, not to stop in the path, not to despair, and not to lose hope. Rather, he should have good opinion of Allah, and he should have hope, and he should have great patience; until he attains his objective or dies in the path. As for stopping, no. For this reason, Allah, the Exalted, says to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
[Al-Hijr: 99], and he is the Messenger of Allah. And Allah says:
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Al-Imran: 102]. So patience is necessary. And He, the Exalted, says:
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account."إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
[Az-Zumar: 10]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1469
So this is my advice to every caller, and to every mujahid, and to every one who enjoins what is right and forbids what is wrong, and to every guide and teacher, and to those similar to them. The advice to everyone is to continue in the good path and to be patient with it, and to be patient with the thorns that may hurt, and to be patient with everything that may hinder the path or stop in the path from all obstacles, until the believer and the caller to Allah attains his desire or dies before that. And Allah is the Helper. Yes.
