Persistence in Supplication and Not Despairing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I have asked Allah, I have persisted in my supplication, I am consistent in prayer, fasting, and zakah, and I have performed Hajj at the House of Allah. Yet, whenever I try, without any result, I ask Him for a normal request that I have not been able to achieve for eight years, despite having striven and searched beyond my capacity. My only request is marriage, and until now I have not been successful to the point where I imagine that I must be wrong with Allah in something—Allah knows best.

Answer:
Do not despair, my son, do not despair—may Allah reward you with good—do not despair. You must seek and supplicate, and you must take the means. Ask your Lord that Allah make it easy for you to find a righteous wife, and work through the means. Advise the people you know to seek a wife for you, and work the means to obtain the money. Hold yourself accountable regarding sins; perhaps you have been deprived because of a sin you are persisting in. So, hold yourself accountable. He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ
[Surah al-Shura: 30].
In fact, some of the Salaf said: He supplicated to Allah for forty years for a need, but it was not granted to him until after forty years. Your Lord is more knowing and more wise; He may delay it for a profound wisdom. Perhaps in this lies your benefit, until Allah makes it easy for you to have a sincere repentance from bad deeds, or until you obtain a righteous wife at the time it is meant to happen, or the like. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One of you will be answered as long as he does not hasten, saying: I called, I called, but I did not see it being answered for me.يستجاب لأحدكم ما لم يعجل، فيقول دعوت دعوت فلم أره يستجاب لي
So he becomes discouraged at that point and abandons supplication.
Therefore, it is obligatory that a person does not become discouraged, but rather continues in supplication and holds a good opinion of his Lord. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
Any Muslim who makes a supplication containing nothing which is sinful or which involves breaking ties of relationship will be given for it by God one of three things: He will give him as peedy answer, or store it up for him in the next world, or turn away from him an equivalent amount of evil.
Mishkat al-Masabih 2259
They said: O Messenger of Allah, then we will ask a lot. He said:
Allah is more.الله أكثر
So you must continue in supplication, strive, take the means, seek the woman, seek the means for the mahr, and the like; until you attain it—if Allah wills—and do not despair or lose hope. Know that whatever befalls you is from yourself; you must hold yourself accountable as well. Repent to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), look into your deeds, and be upright in obedience to your Lord.
