The third question in the letter from our Sudanese brothers: We ask you to clarify the verses or hadiths that prohibit singing. May Allah reward you?
Answer: Yes, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says in His clear Book: [Luqman: 6-7].
Most of the scholars said: The intended meaning of (idle talk) is singing, so it is idle talk.
And some of them said, in addition to that: also the sounds of flutes and entertainment ....... .......... This is the amusement of idle talk and..... and it is among the causes of misguidance from the path of Allah and of leading others astray, for when hearts become saturated with songs, they become diseased, hardened, and deviated, and they fall into misguidance and lead others astray, and listening to the Qur'an becomes heavy for them and they become arrogant about listening to it, so it leads its people to the corruption of their hearts, their deviation, and their heaviness in listening to the Qur'an, and their intimacy with singing .... from speech until Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, singing causes hypocrisy to grow in the heart just as water causes plants to grow." This makes clear to us the danger of songs and their evil, and the instruments of entertainment.
And there are hadiths in this meaning that indicate the prohibition of songs and entertainment, among which is what al-Bukhari narrated in the Sahih from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 5590.
Al-Har: is the forbidden private part, i.e., zina (unlawful sexual intercourse). Silk is well known and it is forbidden for men. Khamr (intoxicants) is well known and it is every intoxicating substance. Al-Ma'azif: are songs and entertainment. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that in the last of time there will come people who consider these lawful, although they are forbidden, due to the weakness of their faith and their lack of concern. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. Yes.
Answer: Yes, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says in His clear Book:
(6) And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. (7) And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.
