The ruling on one who fasts for days in Ramadan while abandoning prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
You say: When I was twelve, thirteen, and fourteen years old, I broke my fast for many days in Ramadan during those years, and I do not know the number of these days. Now, after several years have passed, I have awakened from my heedlessness, praise be to Allah and His grace, and I remembered those days I broke my fast. I wanted to fast for three months, so I fasted sixteen days of them, but I have now stopped fasting them. This was after I heard on the *Nur 'ala al-Darb* program that one who does not pray is ruled as a disbeliever, and that no deed is accepted from him, not even fasting. Since I was not praying some of the prayers out of laziness during those years, and in addition to that, after my menstrual period I would sit for a whole day without praying, on the pretext that I was trying to determine whether I had become fully purified or not, what should I do? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer: Repentance is sufficient in this matter; it is sufficient for you, O sister! Repent to Allah. You must repent and praise Allah. Repentance involves regret for the past, the resolve not to return to it, along with seeking forgiveness and praising Allah. This is because abandoning prayer is disbelief, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) Therefore, one who does not pray has no fasting, no zakah, and nothing else. Consequently, you are not required to make up the fasts in this case; rather, you must repent. Praise be to Allah who has granted you the gift of repentance and commitment.
