The ruling on one who intentionally breaks his fast for days in Ramadan and does not know the number of days

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, we move on to the Sultanate of Oman via a message sent by the listener: Muhammad ibn Salim. Our brother has a collection of questions, among which is a question that says: I was negligent in fasting on some days in past Ramadans, where I broke my fast intentionally. Before two Ramadans, I committed myself to it, repented, and adhered to it. Then I resolved not to return to negligence in Ramadan. Does this repentance suffice, or is the expiation obligatory upon me? Knowing that I have forgotten the number of days I broke my fast?

Answer:
Repentance, by which Allah erases the sin, and for which you have a great reward, as Allah the Exalted said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[Surat al-Nur: 31], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.التائب من الذنب كمن لا ذنب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Repentance demolishes what came before itالتوبة تهدم ما قبلها
. And you must make up the days, due to the saying of Allah (Exalted is He) regarding the sick and the traveler:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysوَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 185]. So you make them up according to your estimate; this is the most cautious course for you. And if you have repented, you must make them up according to your estimate. If you think it was ten days, make up ten; if twenty, twenty, and so on. Act according to your estimate if you cannot be certain. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) forgives what has passed with sincere repentance. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
