Question:
At the end of his letter, the brother Ahmad Ali Hasan al-Zahrani asks, following his question about the ruling on building over graves: Is it permissible to pray in a mosque that contains a grave?
Answer:
One does not pray at graves, just as you heard in the previous hadith, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 532 Muslim narrated it in his Sahih from the hadith of Jundub ibn Abdullah al-Bajali. If one prays at them, he has taken them as a mosque. Therefore, one does not pray at graves, nor in mosques that contain graves. If a grave was buried in the mosque later, it is obligatory to dig it up and transfer the remains, such as bones and other things, to the public cemetery, where they are placed in a specific pit and the surface is leveled like the other graves, so that they are not desecrated and the mosque is freed from this, allowing Muslims to pray in it with a valid prayer.
As for graves that are old and a mosque was built over them for the sake of seeking blessing from them, this is the abomination. The mosque is demolished and does not remain if it was the last to be built. If the mosque was the last, it is demolished. If the mosque was old and then a dead person was buried in it, the grave is dug up and the remains are transferred to the Muslim cemeteries. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone. Yes.

One does not pray at graves, just as you heard in the previous hadith, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Beware of those who preceded you and used to take the graves of their prophets and righteous men as places of worship, but you must not take graves as mosques; I forbid you to do that.
