The Prohibitions of a Woman from the Side of Her Husband: Only Its Principles and Branches

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message from Tabuk sent by a listener from there. The sender (A. H. Sh.) says: Are the children of a brother a mahram to the wife of their paternal uncle? And is it permissible for her to meet them while she is wearing the hijab?
Answer: The children of a brother are not a mahram to the wife of their paternal uncle; rather, the brother himself is not a mahram. The husband's brother, the husband's paternal uncle, and the uncle's sons are all not mahrams; they are all non-mahrams. She must not be alone with any one of them, nor is it permissible for her to uncover herself before them. Rather, she must observe the hijab in their presence because they are not mahrams. The brother, the paternal uncle, the maternal uncle, and the son of a brother—none of these are mahrams, just as the son of a paternal uncle and the son of a maternal uncle are not mahrams. The mahrams from among the in-laws are: the husband's father, the husband's grandfather, the husband's son, the son of the husband's daughter, and the son of the husband's son. These are the mahrams. As for his brother, his paternal uncle, his maternal uncle, his brother's son, and the like, these are not mahrams. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
