I swear falsely in front of my female colleagues, my brothers, or my teachers, and I seek forgiveness in my heart and repeat the seeking of forgiveness without them knowing. Is there a sin on me for that?

The questioner : In the last of her questions: I swear falsely in front of my female colleagues, my brothers, or my teachers, and I seek forgiveness in my heart and repeat the seeking of forgiveness without them knowing. Is there a sin on me for that?

The Shaykh : Yes, she has a sin for that, and it is not permissible for a person to lie, so how much more so if he combines it with an oath? That makes the sin even greater. In fact, some scholars say that if a person swears a false oath knowing that he is lying, that is the oath that plunges its owner into sin and then plunges him into the Fire.
