Question:
The first letter in this episode is from one of our brother listeners. He says, Hasan Mahmoud Hamdan, a Sudanese working in the area of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. Our brother Hasan has a somewhat long question. He says: I read a book titled *Kitab al-Tabaqat* (The Book of Biographies) by the shaykh Muhammad ibn Dayf Allah. This book contains stories about the people of the Sufi paths and their shaykhs. I read a strange story in this book, which is that one of the shaykhs died at the time of the 'Asr prayer. When the people present wanted to take him to the cemetery, and there was the sea between them and it, and when they reached the shore of the sea, the sun was about to set. They considered returning with the funeral and keeping it until morning. And when they were consulting about this matter, lo, the sun returned to the east until they took the funeral, crossed the sea with it, and buried it. I ask about such stories: do they happen for the awliya (close friends of Allah)?
Give us your ruling, may Allah magnify your reward.
Answer:
In the name of Allah.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
This is a story from the fabrications and much lying of the Sufis. So one should not be deceived by them. And we do not know that this happened to any of the awliya. Rather, it happened to Yusha' ibn Nun, the young man of Musa, and he was a prophet from among the prophets, when he besieged the giants.
The point is: to the best of our knowledge, this has not happened to any of the awliya (close friends of Allah). The Sufis lie a lot, and one should not be deceived by what they say, nor rely on the incidents they report. [al-Baqarah:284] But we do not know any basis for this, and He is the One who is able to do everything. To the best of our knowledge, this has not happened to anyone in what is established by the Sunnah, except for what is known from the story of Yusha' ibn Nun, yes, the young man of Musa, yes.
The presenter: Yes.
