A296: The awliya are those whom Allah mentioned in His saying, (Exalted and Majestic is He):[Yunus 10:62-63] . So every believer who is mindful of Allah is a wali (close friend of Allah) of Allah, (Glorified and Exalted is He). They differ in this according to their faith and their mindfulness of Allah, but every believer who is mindful of Allah is a wali of Allah, (Glorified and Exalted is He). He, (Glorified and Exalted is He), said: [Al-Baqarah 2:257] . And this is a favor from Allah, (Glorified and Exalted is He), upon His believing and mindful servants, that He takes them under His protection, loves them, supports them, and cares for them, (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is not
necessary for a wali to have a karamah. He may have a karamah that transcends the ordinary, or he may not have a karamah. So it is not necessary for a wali that a karamah occur through his hands. Rather, this is contingent upon need: his need, or the need of the Muslims, or to establish the proof against the deniers. So the karamah, as the scholars said, is either for a need in the religion, or for a need of the Muslims. It is not necessary for the heart to have a karamah.

أَلاَ إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ (62) الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَAllah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light.
اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِnecessary for a wali to have a karamah.
