How to Deal with a Woman Who Refuses the Hijab
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Answer:
What is the ruling of the Shari'ah if a woman refuses the hijab?
Knowing that the women among us do not cover themselves, what is your guidance?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
Matters are to be handled with wisdom. A believer handles them with wisdom. He calls her to the hijab, explains to her the ruling on the hijab, that it is obligatory, that Allah has prescribed it for her, and that she is an 'awrah (part of the body that must be covered) and a source of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) if she does not cover herself. He handles matters with wisdom and kind words. Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Ahzab: 53]. He recites this verse to her and explains to her the ruling on the hijab. Likewise, His saying the Exalted: [An-Nur: 31], the verse. And likewise, His saying the Exalted: [Al-Ahzab: 59].
In the two Sahihs (al-Bukhari and Muslim), it is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: When I heard Safwan's sigh of remembrance of Allah during the expedition in which the people of the slander spoke, she said: When I heard his voice, I covered my face. He recognized me because he had seen me before the hijab, meaning before we were commanded to cover our faces, because he had seen me before the hijab, so he recognized me. When I heard his voice, I covered my face. This indicates that it was established among them after the revelation of the verse of the hijab that the face is to be covered and concealed. This is purer for the hearts, more beneficial, further from shubhah (a doubtful matter), and further from evil. So you, O Abdullah, handle your wife with kind words and good manner, so that she may be upright, if Allah wills. Yes.
