The ruling on Jumu'ah and congregational prayer for one who works in a farm in the desert
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a letter we received from Majdi Jalal Abd al-Latif from Egypt, Shibin al-Qanater, Qalyubia, who works in the Kingdom. The brother Majdi says: He is a righteous young man who grew up in a Muslim family poor before Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). He traveled to the Kingdom to seek sustenance and work, and to help his father with his sustenance and that of his brothers. However, he says: I work in a farm that is hundreds of kilometers away from the cities, where I work in the desert or in the open wilderness as they call it. There is no mosque for prayer, so I pray the times at the place of work or in the place of sleep. As for the Jumu'ah prayer, I do not pray it except as Zuhr; because I am in a farm alone, and there is no one with me except Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). What is the ruling on the obligatory prayers and the Jumu'ah prayer that have passed? Please inform us, may Allah reward you?
Answer: This is what is upon you, my brother! You must pray alone, and praise be to Allah, [al-Baqarah:286]. As long as you are in a desert with no mosques, pray alone and praise be to Allah. You pray Zuhr on Friday; there is no Jumu'ah upon you. You call the adhan and iqamah when the time comes; you call the adhan and iqamah even if you are alone. This is what is prescribed for you. You call the lawful adhan and iqamah for yourself and pray every prayer in its time, and you are in great goodness, praise be to Allah. Yes.
