Ruling on a Woman Shortening Her Hair

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Finally, our sister asks about a woman cutting her hair: is it permissible or not?

Answer:
If there is a need for it, there is nothing wrong with shortening it. If she leaves it as adornment and beauty and tucks it behind her back, behind her head, that is sufficient. If there is a need to shorten it and she cuts it, or cuts part of the head to make it lighter, there is no harm in that, especially if her husband agrees with it. If she has a husband and he agrees, there is no harm.
As for if she does not have a husband, leaving it is better; because the hair is beauty, beauty for her. If there is a need to cut some of it to lighten it, and the intention is not to imitate the disbelievers, but her intention is to lighten it, then there is nothing wrong with that according to the correct view, there is no harm in that. It is established that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, his wives (may Allah be pleased with them) cut from their heads to lighten them.
So the conclusion is: a woman may cut from the long hair, whether from the back or from the ends of the braids, to lighten and ease it. If she leaves it, that is more beautiful and better. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
