Does the soul of the deceased remain over him? And does he feel those who wash him and accompany his funeral?

Question:
Is it true that the soul of the deceased remains over him until he is placed in his grave, and it enters with him?
And is it true that the deceased feels those who wash him and those who walk in his funeral procession?

Answer:
I do not know of any basis for this. I say: I do not know of any basis for this. The soul of the believer, when it is taken, is raised to the heavens to Allah, then He commands it to be returned to its body, until it is questioned in the grave: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet?
And as for the disbeliever, when his soul is raised, the gates of the heavens are closed against it. Indeed, this indicates that the soul departs from the human body at death; it does not remain over him, but it departs. However, the soul of the believer is raised to the heavens, above the seventh heaven, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
Return to the place whence you cameارجعي من حيث جئت
Sahih Muslim 159c
He returns it to its body, until it is questioned about its Lord, its religion, and its Prophet.
And as for the disbeliever, the gates of the heavens are closed against it, and it is cast down with a harsh casting. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

The presenter: We ask Allah for pardon and well-being. May Allah reward you with good, O honorable Shaykh.
