The Meeting of the Deceased Person's Soul with the Sleeper's Soul

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our sister asks: Does the deceased person see his family in this world, when does he see them, and when is he veiled from them?

Answer:
There is no established evidence indicating that he sees them. Some scholars have mentioned that souls in sleep may meet with the souls of the deceased, and this may occur at times, as indicated by the fact that the soul is with Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He); the soul of the believer is in Paradise, and the soul of the disbeliever is tormented.
However, this soul may be sent to the body to greet those who greet the graves and to respond to them. This soul may meet with the soul of the sleeper in sleep, and he may converse with it about certain matters, as Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) and other scholars have mentioned. A person may die while owing a debt to someone, and his soul may meet with the soul of one of the sleepers, informing them that he owes so much to such a person and so much to another. The person who is told this verifies it, and it may be reported that certain things are in such a place or such a place, through a dream in which the soul of the deceased and the soul of the sleeper met. These are matters indicating that the souls of the deceased may meet with the souls of sleepers, whether they are relatives or others.
However, in the authentic hadiths, as far as we know, there is nothing indicating that these souls meet. It is based on reality and the experiences that occur among people. I do not recall anything at this moment that was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this meaning; nothing comes to my mind at this time. However, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned much in this regard in his book "The Soul," and he listed many details. Whoever wishes to review it should do so, for it contains great benefit.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
