What is required of one who breaks his fast in Ramadan due to the hardship of work?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received for the program from the listener: Ibrahim Musa 'Abd al-Haqq, a Sudanese. Our brother says in his message:
Ramadan came, and I was a construction worker. I had workers with me, and I was the only one among them who was fasting, as the work was arduous. On the second day, I could not go out to work, and I did not have food for that day. I was the father of a large family. On the third day, I left the house for work without having eaten, and I found that the whole group was in the same situation, as I had broken my fast for the rest of Ramadan. So what is required of me, O Shaykh?
Knowing that this was several years ago.

Answer:
First, you must make up the fast, making up the days you broke during the appropriate times, in the winter, or at times when you do not need to work. You must make up the days that are upon you.
As for your breaking of the fast, this requires detail:
If you were able to do work that would suffice for your needs, without breaking the fast, or if you could find from your wealth what would suffice you from breaking the fast, and you could rely on it for the duration of Ramadan; then it is not permissible for you to break the fast for reasons of work. Rather, you must fast Ramadan; because Allah has made it obligatory upon the capable Muslims, the residents who are not travelers, that they fast it in its time. So you must fast with the people, if you are able to do so.
But if we suppose that you were not able, and you did not find work at appropriate times, at night, or during part of the day, that would suffice for your needs, and you were compelled to break the fast for the sake of work, and you could not fast while working; then it is permissible for you to break the fast out of dire necessity, just as it is permissible for the sick person for whom fasting is difficult. Your harm is greater than the harm of the sick person, if you did not find anything for yourself and your family, and you could not find other means that would suffice you from breaking the fast, and you did not find work at night, or during part of the day, that would suffice you from this work. And Allah knows the secret and what is more hidden, and nothing is hidden from Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) . So if you were truthful and did not find work, then you are excused, and you must make up the fast.
And if you were negligent and lax, then you must repent along with making up the fast. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
