Who are those who enter the category of martyrs?

The martyr has the reward that Allah promised, and the matter is in the hand of Allah . The sinner is under the will of Allah; if Allah wills, He forgives him, and if He wills, He punishes him for his sin.
So the martyrs have their reward, and great good is hoped for them if they are sincere in their jihad and in their deeds; they have their reward. Likewise, those mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as the one who dies of plague, the one who dies of a stomach ailment, and the one who dies of pleurisy—these are martyrs. If they have sins, their matter is with Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, but they have the virtue of martyrdom, and the matter of the sins is under the will of their Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He; if He wills, He forgives them, and if He wills, He torments them.
