Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of the listening brothers, who says: (A. M. A. al-Kinani) from al-Qunaydhah.
Our brother’s message is lengthy; in fact, its summary is: Your Eminence, his father has begun to dispute with him over his salary. He is the father of a family of four, and he says that he paid half of his salary to his father, but the father was not satisfied with that, because the father himself supports a large family of nine people. He asks Your Eminence for guidance? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The Book of Allah the Mighty and the Sunnah of His trustworthy Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) indicate the great status of parents, the magnitude of their rights, and the obligation of being dutiful to them. Therefore, it is obligatory for the child to strive to be dutiful to his parents and to give them special care; for Allahsays:[Surah al-Isra: 23], and there are other verses with the same meaning. And He the Exalted and Majestic said:[Surah Luqman: 14]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2290Sahih (Darussalam) A man came to him complaining that his father had seized his wealth, and he said:.
So it is obligatory for you to seek what pleases your father, and to strive to convince him with a good manner and gentle words. Leave for your child and your household what is sufficient for them, and give him what helps him with the maintenance of his family. By doing so, you will attain the great reward and the dutifulness to your father.
As for if the half that remains for you is not sufficient for your need, or does not exceed your need, then it is not obligatory for you: [Surah al-Taghabun: 16]. And this is indicated by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 2340Da'if (Darussalam). The right of the parents is great, but there is no harm and no reciprocating harm. If what remains of your salary is the amount of your need, without extravagance or waste, then it is not obligatory for you to give him the excess. But you should excuse yourself to him with good words and pleasant manners, or you should have some of your relatives intercede for you so that they excuse you and please him. This is what you should do in this matter.
As for if you have the ability to increase, and to lower the half and give him more than the half, and that is sufficient for you and for those under your care, a moderate need without extravagance or waste, then do that.
In summary: You should strive to please your father, but without harm to you and to your household; because you have a right for your wife and your household, your children, and you have a right for your father. So if harm comes, you prioritize your own need and the need of your child, and your father is entitled only to what remains and exceeds this, due to the aforementioned saying of him (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 2340Da'if (Darussalam), and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): . So you start with yourself and your father is among those you support, so you start with yourself and your household, then you give your father what remains that satisfies his need and helps him with the maintenance of his dependents. May Allah make your affairs easy, assist you, and bless you and your father, and make your father wealthy.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
