The ruling on breaking the fast in Ramadan for one who fears harm to oneself
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I was ill on one of the days of Ramadan, so I feared for myself that if I fasted that day, my condition would worsen or I would become very hungry and burden myself with what I cannot bear. So I asked my father and those with me in the house whether I should break the fast or not? They told me that they knew nothing about it, whether I should break the fast or not. But I broke the fast, O Shaykh, then I went to the doctor, and he did not require me to break the fast. Then some people told me afterwards that I owe an expiation and that I have sinned. What is the ruling?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is no blame on you, and praise be to Allah, as long as you felt an illness that made fasting difficult for you. Allah the Exalted says: [Surat al-Baqarah: 185]. So if you were convinced in your mind that you feared harm or injury from this illness, then you are excused, and praise be to Allah. Nothing is required of you except making up the fast, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
