Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message received by the program from listener Bahaa Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad. We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks Your Eminence, saying:
I ask you about a friend who was undutiful to his father before his death, and after his death he began to pray two rak'ahs for him every day and make du'a' for him, so that he may atone for that state he mentioned. Please guide us; is what he is doing correct? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon His Messenger, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
As for prayer for the deceased, it has no basis in the Shari'ah as far as we know, but it is prescribed to make du'a' for him. He should make du'a' for his father, in his prostration, at night, and at all times, asking for forgiveness, mercy, pardon, high ranks, and multiplied good deeds. He should give charity on his behalf with whatever wealth Allah has made easy for him, perform Hajj on his behalf, and perform 'Umrah. These are the lawful means that benefit his father. As for him praying on his behalf, or fasting on his behalf, there is no basis for this as far as we know.
And among what one should do frequently is making much du'a', making much du'a' for your father.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
