The ruling on prayer for one who remained in a prolonged coma

Question:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. After that: I was admitted to the hospital and remained for about three months without performing the obligatory prayers; this was because I was in a complete coma. What is the ruling on this? Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.

Answer:
One who is like you is exempt from the obligation; because the basis of legal responsibility is intellect. When a person falls into a coma, his intellect is removed. You do not have to pray, nor fast if you encounter Ramadan while in this state; because you are excused, of the same category as the insane and the mentally ill. Nothing is required of them.
When you regain consciousness, you begin the work. So after you regain consciousness, you start the work. As for the period of the coma, nothing is required of you in it; because you have no intellect by which to distinguish between the command of Allah and His prohibition.
