Ruling on Combining Hajj and Trade in Makkah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some pilgrims go to perform Hajj and trade at the same time, and some work in certain jobs in Makkah during their Hajj, even during the rituals of Hajj. Is this permissible for them or not?

Answer:
There is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with the pilgrim combining this and that. He may perform Hajj, trade, and work in Makkah in lawful, Sharia-permissible jobs. There is nothing wrong with that. He said, (Exalted and Majestic is He):
And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding.وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى وَاتَّقُونِ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ
[al-Baqarah:197], then He said:
There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lordلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ
[al-Baqarah:198], meaning: during the seasons of Hajj, as Ibn Abbas said. So there is nothing wrong with the believer performing Hajj while having the intention to trade in Makkah, to sell such-and-such, or to buy such-and-such. There is nothing wrong with him working as a guide in such-and-such, or as a builder, or otherwise. He combines the two matters. But whoever comes for Allah purely, with nothing carrying him or driving him except Hajj, that is more complete.
