Ruling on boycotting the home of a father who does not pray?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: I am a young Muslim, praise be to Allah, but I have a father who does not pray. Should I stay with him in the house, or should I boycott him and leave him? Please advise us, may Allah reward you, knowing that I am a student studying in high school and I have no money or dinar.
Answer:
It is prescribed for you to stay with your father, to advise him frequently, to care for him greatly, and to treat him well. Perhaps Allah will guide him through your efforts. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said in His great Book: [Luqman: 14-15]. He commanded that disbelieving parents be treated with kindness, even though they are disbelievers.
You must treat your father with kindness, be good to him, advise him frequently, and help him in what is good, but do not help him in what is evil, do not cut off ties with him, and do not leave his presence. Rather, you must advise him frequently, help him in what is good, and be patient with any harm until Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) relieves it; for Allah said:[Luqman 31:15], and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) continued to treat some of the Companions whose fathers and mothers had delayed their acceptance of Islam, persisting in their treatment until Allah guided them: such as Abu Hurayrah with his mother, and Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas with his mother, until Allah guided them through the hands of their sons.

(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
