The Ruling on Going to the Family of the Deceased to Offer Condolences

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener from Sudan, Khartoum (E. A. A. A.), asks and says: Is it permissible for us to go to the house of the deceased person after his burial? And what is the explanation of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Prepare food for the family of Ja'farاصنعوا لآل جعفر طعامًا
Sunan Abi Dawud 3132Hasan (Al-Albani)
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Going to the house to offer condolences is prescribed. If you meet the one being consoled outside the house, on the road, or in the mosque, and you offer your condolences, that is sufficient. Therefore, going to the house is not intended for its own sake; rather, the intention is to go to offer condolences.
So if you go to the house to console the family, this is prescribed. It is a means of comforting the bereaved, being affected by the death of your brother, and striving to comfort the people of the calamity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.مثل المؤمنين في توادهم، وتراحمهم، وتعاطفهم كمثل الجسد، إذا اشتكى منه عضو تداعى له سائر الجسد بالسهر والحمى
Sahih Muslim 2586a
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The believers are like a building they support one another.المؤمن للمؤمن كالبنيان يشد بعضه بعضًا
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2560Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he interlaced his fingers. But if you meet the one being consoled on the road, in the mosque, or in another house, that is sufficient, and praise be to Allah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
