The Ruling on Shaking Hands with and Speaking to a Non-Mahram Woman on a Day in Ramadan or Otherwise

Question:
A message reached the program from the listener: Muhammad Yusuf from Jeddah. Our brother has a number of issues, one of which he states: “Your Eminence! What is the ruling for one who shakes hands with a non-mahram woman or speaks with her on a day in Ramadan while he is fasting, and she is also fasting? Does this invalidate the fast or harm it? We ask for your guidance. May Allah reward you with good. Is there an expiation?”
Answer:
First: Shaking hands with a non-mahram woman is not permissible; because the Messenger (peace be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam) And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “The hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman, ever. He only pledged allegiance to them with words.” Meaning: non-mahram women, not those who are mahram. As for a mahram, such as his sister or his aunt, there is no harm in shaking her hand.
As for speaking to a non-mahram woman, there is no harm with it if it is a permissible conversation that contains no suspicion or doubt, such as asking about her children, asking about her father, or asking about a need of the neighbors or relatives. There is no harm in that.
However, if the conversation is for discussing matters related to corruption and zina, or appointments for zina, or about desire, or about her revealing herself to him, such that he sees her beauties, sees her face, sees her beauties, all of this is not permissible.
As for if the conversation is with covering, with hijab, and with distance from suspicion, and not about desire, then there is no blame on him for that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to the women, and the women spoke to him, and there is no harm in that. The fast is valid; shaking hands does not harm it, and conversation does not harm it, except if it is about desire and semen is emitted. Then it invalidates the fast by the emission of semen due to desire. He must repeat the fast, the one from whom that was emitted, he must repeat the fast.
As for merely speaking and nothing is emitted, it does not harm the fast. Likewise, if pre-seminal fluid is emitted, pre-seminal fluid does not invalidate the fast according to the correct opinion. Rather, it is invalidated by the emission of semen due to desire on a day of fasting.
And it is obligatory for the believer to be cautious of what Allah has forbidden for him, and not to shake hands with a woman who is not lawful for him, and not to speak to her about desire or look at her beauties. And Allah says, (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Al-Nur: 30]. So being cautious of the causes of evil is obligatory for the believer wherever he is. We ask Allah for safety for us and for all the Muslims. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
