Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the authenticity of the hadith:
for Allah created Adam in His own imageإنَّ الله خلق آدم على صورته
Sahih Muslim 2612e
or:
in the image of the Most Mercifulعلى صورة الرحمن
?

Answer:
The hadith is valid, and the meaning of
created Adam in His own imageخلق آدم على صورته
Sahih Muslim 2612e
is: hearing, seeing, speaking, having an eye, having a hand, and having a foot. It does not mean likeness, for nothing is like Allah:
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
[Surat al-Ikhlas: 4]. But its meaning is that He created him in His image: hearing, seeing, having a face, having a hand, and having a foot; He knows, He hears, and He sees. This is what the people of the Sunnah said, such as Ahmad and Ishaq, and others, may Allah have mercy on them.
