The Ruling on Mocking the Verses of the Noble Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
There is a person who mocked a verse from the Book of Allah the Noble, and he ridiculed the verse, and he uttered words that are not fitting, as if the one who said them were Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). When he learned the ruling on this, he sought forgiveness from Allah at that very moment. Is this seeking forgiveness considered repentance for him?

Answer:
If the seeking forgiveness is accompanied by regret in his heart, turning back to Allah, and sincerity, then it is repentance. But if the seeking forgiveness is only with the tongue while his heart remains upon corruption and mockery, then the words are of no benefit. Allah the Exalted said:
(65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" (66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.
[Al-Tawbah: 65-66].
It is obligatory to make a sincere repentance from the heart. If he repents from his heart with a sincere repentance, Allah will accept his repentance. Along with this, he must strive to do good deeds and seek forgiveness, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَى
[Taha:82], and He (Mighty and Majestic) said when He mentioned shirk (associating partners with Allah), killing, and zina (unlawful sexual intercourse):
Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with goodإِلَّا مَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا فَأُولَئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ اللَّهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ حَسَنَاتٍ
[al-Furqan:70].
So when a believer falls into a calamity—whether it is a slip, a sin, or disbelief—he must hasten to make a sincere repentance: with regret in his heart, a firm resolve not to return to it, and frequent seeking of forgiveness. And Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent .
