Question:
Your Eminence, in your book "Tuhfat al-Akhyar," you mentioned that it is prescribed for every Muslim to say every morning: "There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent," one hundred times a day.
The question is: Is it permissible to say it more than one hundred times? And is it permissible to say this dhikr in the evening as well?

Answer:
Yes, it is prescribed to increase in the remembrance of Allah at all times, even if it is thousands of times. But what we mentioned was said by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever says one hundered times each day: La ilaha illahu wahdahu la sharikalahu, wa lahul-mulku wa lahul hamduwa huwa ala kulli shayin qadeer (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, with no partner or associate. His is the dominion, all praise is to Him, and He is able to do all things), it will be equivalent to him freeing ten slavesمَن قال في يومٍ مئة مرة: لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك، وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير؛ كانت له عدل عشر رقاب
Sunan Ibn Majah 3798Sahih (Darussalam)
— meaning: the equivalent of freeing ten slaves —
And Allah will write for him one hundred good deeds, and erase from him one hundred bad deeds, and he will be in protection from Shaytan on that day until he reaches the evening, and no one will come with anything better than what he brought, except a man who did more than his workوكتب الله له مئة حسنة، ومحا عنه مئة سيئة، وكان في حرزٍ من الشيطان في يومه ذلك حتى يُمسي، ولم يأتِ أحدٌ بأفضل مما جاء به، إلَّا رجلٌ عمل أكثر من عمله
It was narrated by the two Shaykhs: al-Bukhari and Muslim in "al-Sahihayn."
So this is a great hadith. If he says it at the beginning of the day, it is more complete; so that he is in protection from Shaytan on that day until he reaches the evening. And if he says it in the late morning, or at midday, or in the afternoon, or at night, all of it is good. Even if he says it thousands of times, all of it is good. Allah says:
remember Allah muchوَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا
[Al-Jumu'ah: 10], and He says, Exalted is He:
O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembranceيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا ۝
[Al-Ahzab 33:41]
and glorify Him in the morning and in the evening [Al-Ahzab: 42], and He says, Glorious and Majestic is He:
Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing womenإِنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
[Al-Ahzab 33:35]
until He said, Exalted is He:
and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so - for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.وَالذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ مَغْفِرَةً وَأَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
[Al-Ahzab: 35]. So the remembrance has a great status.
