The ruling on one who did not make up fasting for several years due to her ignorance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: "May Allah reward you with good, Shaykh. A woman asked me, saying that she was ignorant of making up Ramadan, and she lived for several years without making up what she missed due to menstruation and other reasons. Now she asks and says: What should I do? And how do I make up what I missed? Knowing that her age is over fifty years?"

Answer:
Many women from the Bedouin and the towns ask about this, and it mostly occurs among the Bedouin. The answer is that they are directed and guided that it is obligatory for them to make up the fasts. This ignorance on their part does not excuse them from making up the fasts, because this is a matter known among the Muslims, and it is a practice of Allah among the Muslims. The most she has is that she was heedless and turned away; she did not ask, and she did not pay attention.
So it is obligatory for her to make up the fasts. If she has the ability, she should feed one poor person for every day, as a group of the Companions issued a ruling to that effect: half a sa' of dates, or of rice, approximately one and a half kilograms, for every day. This is collected and given to some of the poor for the number of days. She makes up the days she owes, either consecutively or separately, as long as it does not cause harm, whether she separates them or makes them consecutive, along with repentance and seeking forgiveness for the delay that occurred.
