What is the ruling on those who mock the religion and its people?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on people who mock the religion and the people of the religion, and who mock those who follow the Sunnah by leaving off the beard and not lengthening their garments?

Answer:
Mocking the religion is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). Mocking Allah, or His Messenger, or His Book, or the believers because they followed the religion, is major shirk. Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ۝
[At-Tawbah 9:65]
Do not make excuses; you have become disbelievers after your faith [Surah al-Tawbah: 66].
As for mocking a specific individual, that is different: if the mockery is because he is lax in his dress, his gait, or in strange matters, then it is a sin. But if the mockery is regarding his religion, because he is religious, because he is a believer, mocking the religion for the sake of the religion, or the beard because Allah prescribed it, then it is major shirk—may Allah protect us, and we ask Allah for well-being.
So mocking the religion of Allah, or any part of it, even the beard, mocking its people for the sake of letting it grow, and they consider letting it grow a deficiency and a defect, this is major shirk—may Allah protect us—because he mocked the religion of Allah, and Allah is the One who prescribed letting it grow, whether we say it is recommended or obligatory.
The position of the scholars is that letting it grow and maintaining it is obligatory, and that cutting it and shaving it is a reprehensible act and forbidden. So mocking this matter is a great crime—may Allah protect us from that.
Likewise, mocking Paradise, or the Fire, or mocking the blessings of the people of Paradise, or what is mentioned about their blessings, or about the punishment of the people of the Fire, mocking these matters is major shirk, and it is among the nullifiers of Islam according to the people of the Sunnah, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
