The Ruling on Yellowish and Brownish Discharge After Purity
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a woman gives birth, then becomes pure in ten days, and then sees yellowish or brownish discharge four days later, should she leave off the prayer, or should she continue, and not consider this yellowish discharge to be anything, knowing that she is within the forty days?
Answer:
If a woman sees purity after ten days of post-natal bleeding, or after fifteen days, or twenty days of post-natal bleeding; then she becomes pure, she takes a bath, she prays, and she is lawful for her husband, even if only ten days have passed for her, if she became completely pure, with white water, or if she inserted cotton or the like and it came out clean; then she takes a bath, prays, fasts, and is lawful for her husband, even if only ten days, or fifteen days, or twenty days have passed for her; there is no harm.
And likewise, if a menstruating woman’s custom is seven or eight days, and then she sees purity after three days, or after four days; she takes a bath and prays, and praise be to Allah; because the blood increases and decreases, and lengthens and increases in menstruation and post-natal bleeding.
As for if she sees yellowish discharge after that; she became completely pure, then she sees yellowish or brownish discharge; then the correct view is that it is not counted. Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "We did not count brownish or yellowish discharge after purity as anything." And some said: except during the time of the custom, the time of post-natal bleeding, but this is not good.
So the correct view is: the generality, and that yellowish and brownish discharge after purity is not counted as anything, so she may pray and fast, and she considers the yellowish and brownish discharge like urine; she cleans herself from it and performs istinja' from it, and that is sufficient.
