Ruling on kissing one's son's wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible for a father to kiss his son's wife, even if she is a stranger to him, on occasions such as festivals or when traveling? I mean a stranger, not his sister or her brother's sister?

Answer:
A son's wife is a mahram (a relative one may not marry); there is no harm. A son's wife, the wife of his son, the wife of his grandson, the wife of his daughter's son, the wife of his father, and the wife of his grandfather are all mahrams. Allah said:
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurredوَلَا تَنْكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Surat al-Nisa: 22] and He said:
the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loinsوَحَلَائِلُ أَبْنَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلَابِكُمْ
[Surat al-Nisa: 23].
His children from his loins and his children through breastfeeding, their wives are his mahrams. So if he kisses her, or if he kisses her not out of desire, but on occasions such as festivals or upon someone's return from travel, there is no harm in that. However, it is better that if he kisses her, he kisses her on her nose or on her head, and if he kisses her, it should be on her cheek or on her head; this is what is best. Not on the mouth; regarding the mouth, it is better to leave it for the husband. This is what is better according to a group of scholars.
