Warning Against the Khatmiyyah Method

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Also, the same brothers, Your Eminence the Shaykh, have another message regarding this mosque where they pray, which is Al-Ajilab Mosque in Dar al-Na'im district, Port Sudan. Our brothers say: Also, one of the preachers stood before them and advised them not to listen to the interpretation of the Qur'an and the explanation of the Prophetic hadiths. He asked them to restrict themselves to books of jurisprudence, specifically the book of Al-Akhdari, Al-Isma'ili, Al-Azizi, or such, because of the rulings on ritual purity and acts of worship in those books; and because they are the original source, according to his claim, while everything else is branches. He encouraged them to some innovations, such as: "O Allah, send blessings upon the best of prayers and upon the Chosen One and the Pleased One, or the Pleased One, and upon their two sons and Fatimah, and complete the obligatory prayers." Is this religious guide correct in what he said? In this mosque, many innovations and seeking nearness to Allah through the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and some of the righteous are practiced. And no one is appointed to lead this mosque except one who adheres to the Khatmiyyah method. Knowing that followers of this method and other Sufi methods do not learn the Qur'an, and they do not even perfect the recitation of Surat al-Fatihah. It continues in this manner, Your Eminence the Shaykh, and they ask for advice and guidance if you would be kind?
Answer: There is no doubt that this action is an abominable act, and it is not permissible to follow the Khatmiyyah method; because it has reached us that it approves calling upon other than Allah and associating partners with Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
So it is obligatory to avoid it and beware of it, and to advise those who adhere to it to fear Allah and worship Him alone and ask Him alone, Glorified and Exalted is He, and not ask anyone other than Him. For Allah, Glorified and Exalted, is the One who is called upon and hoped for, Exalted and Majestic is He. And He said, Glorified is He:
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn: 18], and He said, (peace and blessings be upon him) :
And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers.'"وَلا تَدْعُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لا يَنْفَعُكَ وَلا يَضُرُّكَ فَإِنْ فَعَلْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذًا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
[Yunus: 106].
And what is befitting for the preacher is to remind people of the Qur'an and the Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and to teach them these, and to advise them. And he should learn the Qur'an and its interpretation, and learn the Sunnah and its approved explanations; so that people benefit from the speech of their Lord and the Sunnah of their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
As for books of jurisprudence that are devoid of the Sunnah and evidence, this is an error; because they do not benefit them with knowledge. Books that do not contain evidence from Allah and His Messenger do not benefit people with knowledge, rather they are books of taqlid (following a scholar without knowing his evidence). So the scholar teaches people the books that benefit them, teaches people to read the books that contain benefit, and the greatest of that is to teach them the Qur'an, and to call them to care for the Noble Qur'an in memorization, recitation, reflection, understanding, and action. For it is the greatest book and the most noble book.
So Muslims must cling to it, learn it, study it, and recite it with proper recitation, and reflect upon it and understand it, as Allah, Glorified and Exalted, said:
Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable
[Al-Isra: 9], and He said, Glorified is He:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
[Sad: 29], and He said, Glorified is He:
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?
[Muhammad: 24], and He said, Glorified is He:
And this [Qur'an] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.
[Al-An'am: 155].
So the Book of Allah contains guidance and light. Allah made it a guidance for people
Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure."
[Fussilat: 44].
And likewise, the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explains the Qur'an and clarifies its meanings.
So it is upon the people of knowledge to remind people of that, and to encourage them to adhere to the Qur'an and the Sunnah and clarify their meanings, and to care for the interpretation of the Qur'an and the approved explanations of hadith that benefit people and are useful to them, such as Fath al-Bari, Sharh al-Nawawi, and similar books, and Subul al-Salam, Nail al-Awtar, the beneficial and useful books for people. And what is in some of them of errors, the student of knowledge should point out the errors in some of the explanations and some of the interpretations. It is obligatory for the people of knowledge from the people of the Sunnah and the people of good creed to point out what may occur of errors in the interpretation, or in the hadiths and their explanation, or in what relates to creed and attributes. The scholar points out when interpreting the verse and when mentioning the noble hadith or its explanation, he clarifies what people may fall into of error.
As for encouraging people to books of jurisprudence that do not have evidence from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), this is not from advice, rather this is in reality from deception, not from advice. And it is upon the student of knowledge to advise people with what benefits them in the way that the people of the Sunnah and the community followed in clarifying the meanings of the speech of Allah and the meanings of the speech of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the advice in that, and they teach the common people what they need in matters of their religion. Yes.
