Ruling on Taking a Disbeliever as a Companion and Friend

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He says: A Christian lives with me, and he says to me: "My brother, and we are brothers," and he eats and drinks with us. Is this action permissible or not?
Answer: The disbeliever is not a brother to the Muslim. Allah the Exalted says:
The believers are but brothersإِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ
[Al-Hujurat: 10]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The Muslim is the brother of the Muslimالمسلم أخو المسلم
So the disbeliever, whether he is a Jew, a Christian, an idolater, a Zoroastrian, a Communist, or otherwise, is not a brother to the Muslim. It is not permissible to take him as a companion or a friend. However, if he eats with you occasionally without you taking him as a companion or a friend, but rather it just happens that he eats with you, or at a general feast, that is fine. But taking him as a companion, a friend, a close associate, and a dining partner is not permissible; because Allah has severed the bond of loyalty and love between us and them. He said in His great Book:
There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah aloneقَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ إِذْ قَالُوا لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَآءُ مِنْكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةُ وَالْبَغْضَاءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّى تُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ
[Al-Mumtahanah: 4]. And He the Exalted said:
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messengerلا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
[Al-Mujadilah: 22], meaning: they love
even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindredوَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءَهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَانَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ
[Al-Mujadilah: 22], the verse.
It is obligatory for the Muslim to disavow the people of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and to hate them for the sake of Allah. But he should not harm them, hurt them, or transgress against them without right. However, he should not take them as companions or close confidants. Whenever it happens that they eat with him, or he eats with them at a general feast or with incidental food, without companionship, loyalty, or affection, there is no harm. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah bless you and reward you with good.
