Ruling on Reciting the Verses with Which Zakariyya Supplied for Offspring

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: The brother 'Atiyyah al-Juhani from Jeddah also asks and says: If a man is barren and does not have children, and he recites the verses with which Zakariyya (peace be upon him) supplicated when he was barren, such as the saying of the Exalted:
My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
[Al-Anbiya: 89], and His saying, the Exalted:
My Lord, indeed my bones have weakenedرَبِّ إِنِّي وَهَنَ الْعَظْمُ مِنِّي..
[Maryam 19:4]
the verse [Maryam: 4], is this correct?
The answer: I do not know of any basis for this, but if a person does it, there is nothing wrong with it. And if he supplicates with something else, saying: O Allah, grant me good offspring, O Allah, bestow upon me good offspring, and the like of such supplications, all of it is good. And if he says:
My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
[Al-Anbya 21:89]
then there is nothing wrong with it, but he should not say: "My hair has turned white with age" when he is lying and is still young; because this does not correspond to reality. But he should say what corresponds to reality. So if he is an old man with white hair, that is true for him. But as for saying it while he is young, no. But he supplicates to his Lord with whatever easy supplications that are appropriate for the occasion...
The presenter: And if it is in the way of reciting the verse?
The Shaykh: No, we do not know of any basis for it, but what is required and prescribed is that he supplicates to his Lord... he humbles himself to Allah and asks Him, the Exalted and Exalted, to bestow upon him righteous offspring and to grant him success in having good offspring. And if he also takes another cause, which is that he marries another wife who is fertile, known to be from a family whose members bear children, or that she has been tried, having been married and having had children, if he marries several women seeking children, perhaps Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will make one of those wives carry a child, so this is also one of the good causes. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah bless you and reward you with good!
