The ruling on the supplication of the barren person: “My Lord, do not leave me alone.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The questioner, brother A. J. from Jeddah, asks: What is the ruling for a man who is barren and does not have children, and he supplicates with the supplication that Zakariyya (peace be upon him) used, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
[Al-Anbya 21:89]
Is this correct?

A: I do not know of any harm in the supplication mentioned. If he supplicates with something else, such as saying, “O Allah, grant me good offspring, O Allah, bestow upon me righteous offspring,” or similar supplications, all of this is good. It is like the saying of Allah the Exalted:
My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication."رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
[Al-Imran: 38].
It is prescribed for him to present himself to specialized doctors, because he may not be barren but rather have an impediment that can be treated. Likewise, it is prescribed for him to marry a woman who has given birth, because the impediment may be in the wife he has, not in him, so that perhaps Allah will grant him good offspring because of that. It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Marry women who are fertile and loving, for I will be boasting with you before the nations on the Day of Resurrection.تزوجوا الولود الودود فإني مكاثر بكم الأمم يوم القيامة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869
And success is from Allah.
