Question:
The first message in this episode is one that reached the program from the Kingdom of Bahrain, from the Maliki school, and its sender is a listener from there who says: Muhammad Salman Abdullah. Our brother says in his message: Your Eminence, I am a young man and I want to marry a barren woman who is infertile and does not bear children; because I do not want offspring or progeny. Is this permissible in the Shari'ah, even if I am well-off?
Please advise me and guide me. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) indicates that it is prescribed for the believer to seek a wife who is loving and fertile; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869 So the best for you, my brother, is to seek one who is fertile and loving so that you combine the two benefits: satisfying your desire and need, chaster your self, and obtaining children through whom the community increases, and through whom Allah benefits you if they are righteous. This is what is better for you and what is best for you.
And marrying a barren woman has nothing wrong with it; there is no harm in that. But marrying one who is fertile and loving is better and more preferable. And if you combine the two by marrying a loving, fertile woman and a barren woman, and you combine the two matters; there is nothing wrong with that for you. And we ask Allah to guide everyone. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
